We survived our trip to Switzerland this past weekend! Now, it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Just when I see something beautiful, something even more beautiful comes along. So now I want to retire in Switzerland! Weggis is the city we stayed in, it took us about 5 hours to get there by car. It was a quiet little town about 10 minutes from the city of Lucerne. Ronnie found us a nice bed and breakfast right on the lake. We had no clue what to expect. The majority of people looked like they were there for their retirement – many older couples driving really nice cars. We wanted something nice and relaxing….enter Alexis. Our sweet angel slept the whole way there in the car, so from 3-5 AM she decided she did not want to sleep anymore and wanted to cry. So our first night was rough.
Saturday we were pretty tired but we made the most of it. We took a boat to the city of Lucerne – that was when I decided we needed to live out there! Hehehe…photos can’t capture the beauty of the whole area. Lucerne was a bustling city with many tourists. Very cool as well, was a little busy like Munich’s downtown area is. There were a ton of swans all around the lake that you could feed. We got some bread for Alexis to feed them, and as you can tell by the photos and videos when I post them – we got surrounded. There were times we had to run because they were so close and I thought they would peck at Alexis. It drew a little crowd and they were getting a kick out of us getting attacked. Alexis though was smiling away and thought it was great. Mama and dada were freaking out!
There was a Picasso museum that we found. It was so interesting; it was photos of Picasso’s lifestyle that a friend of his took. So you could see him in his home and just what he did in everyday life. His home was so cluttered and had art stuff everywhere - stacks of art upon art. Their dinner table was over taken by paints, etc. - they just sat at one end and ate around his clutter. Cool to see what he was like. Also there were photos of him doing some of his famous artworks. Cool thing was that there were some of the art we saw in Paris. We thought some of the stuff around his home looked familiar! After that we just strolled around the city and rode the boat back to Weggis and had dinner. Nice relaxing day. This time we let Alexis sleep with us for the first time – as we did not want a repeat of the following. She is one wiggle worm! Took the whole bed practically – do not care to do that again – OH my neck and back!
Sunday we woke up early to take a journey to Mount Pilatus - a mountain with a 7,000-foot summit (above sea level) where you can see over 70 peaks and five different lakes. We ascended via the world’s steepest cogwheel train, which at one point went up at a 48 degree angle. It took us 40 minutes to get to the top on the train. There were points where you look down out the window and it looked like we were hanging off the mountain! We went through several tunnels and saw cows with massive bells and mountain goats with huge horns. Alexis had a blast riding it and loved flirting with everyone passing by! It was amazing going up. We stayed up there for a few hours, unfortunately at the top we were in a cloud and it was white everywhere - so we did not get to see down below and around. But, we did get a glimpse – for about 15 minutes the clouds parted and the sun came out and we saw the Snow-covered Alps, glittering blue lakes, and the city of Lucerne down below. So pretty!! It was about a 25 degree difference from below – pretty cold and we were not affected by the altitude. There was a souvenir shop, a restaurant, and 2 men playing those long horns that are with the traditional Swiss culture. We were sad to leave, but it was a trip to remember for sure! Praise God we made it back to Munich safely!
Driving is crazy as they are mainly 2 lane highways and the left lane is for passing only, so in the right lane you have to go super fast. The other lane, if a person is too slow, you really get stuck and to get around you have to gun it or the right lane driver will run you down. Very stressful nonetheless! We were saved by the grace of God on one instance, we got of the highway and were getting back on, but there was no lane to get back on the highway, it just spits you out on it. So we almost got slammed into, but the screeching brakes behind us worked and they did not hit us. It was bad and scary – thank you Lord for saving us all!
